The Old Oak route

Route description
The Old Oak route enables a deeper understanding of space and time, natural cycles and discovering the natural wonders. We recommend it for cyclists in better shape, since some of the parts of the route include a 12 % incline. The route follows both asphalt and macadam roads while avoiding the main road, which is not a very busy one, but one can never be too careful. The route along the Mura River is a much harder one since it is sandy and suitable for more adventuristic souls.
The Old Oak route starts in Zgornje Konjišče by the Mura River, where the road will lead you towards Spodnje Konjišče. Then you’ll continue the route across the grassland area, surrounded by fields and deciduous forest. After about three kilometres, you will come closer to the Mura River and cross the river meander in Mihovci and continue towards the cycling-hiking bridge in Črnci, where you’ll get a chance to catch a break and take a refreshment. In this area, you also have a chance to choose other marked paths inside the “Father of Pannonian Oaks” area or stay on the primary road and continue along the Mura River towards the East, where your next stop will be the Lutverci village.
There, you will cross the main road and continue your way towards south. Nearby, you come across a wonderful pond, which is suitable for picnics and fishing. From there, you’ll move further down south and pass the Plitvica village. You will then turn towards the West and drive by the forests and hills, coming across the villages Lešane, Nasova and Janhova. At the northern part of these villages, you will notice the Arda forest area, which is a remnant of the Panonnian primeval forest and an important shelter for the wild animals.
The whole southern part of this route is full of chapels, crosses and plague signs, which give this route an even more extraordinary effect. When you arrive to the Grabe village, a bigger steep begins, but all will be worth it at the end, when you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views, overviewing the Pogled and Vratji Vrh that are located over the border of Slovenia. After the finished route of approximately 35 kilometres, you’ll return at the starting point by the Mura River in Zgornje Konjišče.
